Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a fiberglass pool cost?
In the Cincinnati area, fiberglass pools typically range from $60,000 to $90,000 or more depending on size, shape, and features. That includes the pool shell, excavation, installation, and basic equipment like a pump and filter. Additions like lighting, heating, water features, and custom landscaping will affect the final number.
Try our pool cost calculator for a ballpark estimate, but we can give you the most accurate number for your project during a design consultation where we can assess your yard and walk you through realistic costs.
How long do fiberglass pools last?
Fiberglass pools typically last 25 to 30 years, and many last even longer with proper care. The shell itself is extremely durable and resistant to cracking, algae, and surface wear. What tends to require attention over time are the mechanical components like pumps, filters, and heaters, which have shorter lifespans than the pool itself.
The biggest factors in how long your pool lasts are quality of installation and consistent maintenance. A properly installed fiberglass pool with regular upkeep can easily outlast vinyl liner pools, which typically need their liners replaced every 10 to 15 years.
Do fiberglass pools crack?
Fiberglass pools rarely crack under normal conditions because the shell is designed to flex with ground movement and temperature changes. Concrete, by contrast, is rigid and far more prone to cracking over time as the ground shifts and settles.
The most common cause of cracking in a fiberglass pool is improper installation, specifically inadequate backfill or poor site preparation that allows the ground beneath or around the shell to shift unevenly. This is why choosing an experienced installer matters as much as choosing the right pool.
Cosmetic surface cracks called “spider cracks” or “gelcoat cracks” can also appear over time. These affect only the outer surface layer and don’t compromise the structural integrity of the pool. They’re more of an aesthetic issue and can typically be repaired without draining the pool.
Are fiberglass pools better than concrete?
For most homeowners, fiberglass has significant advantages over concrete. Fiberglass pools are faster to install, typically taking a few weeks compared to three to six months for concrete. The surface is smooth and non-porous, which means less algae growth, fewer chemicals, and lower ongoing maintenance costs. Fiberglass also holds up better against ground movement since the shell is designed to flex rather than crack.
Concrete does offer more customization in terms of shape and size, which can matter if you have a very specific or unusually shaped space. But for the majority of backyards and budgets, fiberglass delivers a better experience over the long run.
